Districts

A district page here is not a template with the place name changed. Each one is written from what we actually find behind that address: how old the built-in equipment is, how the kitchen was put together, whether an appliance can be brought forward without dismantling cabinetry, and how long it takes a van to reach the street.

Three things vary enough across this territory to be worth writing down. The first is equipment age, because appliances do not fail at random across their life — hinges, springs, igniters and temperature probes all report for attention inside the same few years, so a community built out in one stretch tends to fail on one schedule. The second is access: an opening sized around an appliance that is no longer made decides whether a repair is an afternoon or a project, and it decides it before anyone opens a toolbag. The third is weather, which arrives everywhere in this county but reaches a house on open water sooner and harder than one three streets inland.

One piece of practical detail saves everybody a morning. Several communities here are gated with a single controlled entrance, so tell us when you book and the technician's name goes onto the entry list in advance instead of being negotiated at a call box. Tell us which side of a large community you are on, too — across somewhere the size of Oakleaf Plantation that changes the arrival window by more than most people expect.
